Celeb Cameos in Olivia Rodrigo’s “Brutal” Music Video

Olivia Rodrigo had the help of some famous pals to make her “Brutal” music video. On Monday, the singer dropped the Petra Collins staged visual with models, actors and dancers putting on their best “relentlessly angry” faces. The energy of this video follows the narrative from Rodrigo’s previous collaboration with Collins when they were working on Good For You earlier this year. Rodrigo draws heavily on Y2K trends and in “Brutal” hops from scene to scene with a handful of the brightest stars of Generation Z, such as The white lotusLukas Gage, Moxie‘s Nico Hiraga and the high fashion model Salem Mitchell. While being a teenager in 2021 will be “messy”, Rodrigo is at least in good company. Check out the full music video above and preview the cameos.

A microscopic video exhibits the coronavirus on the rampage.

The intruder stalks its prey with stealth and precision, preparing to puncture its quarry’s armor. Once inside, the aggressor forces its host to produce more intruders, and then causes it to explode, spewing out a multitude of invaders who can continue their rampage on a wider scale.

The drama, depicted in a microscopic video of SARS-CoV-2 infecting bat brain cells, provides a window into how the pathogen turns cells into virus-making factories before causing the host cell to die.

The video was produced by Sophie-Marie Aicher and Delphine Planas, virologists at the Pasteur Institute in Paris who won honorable mention in a microscopic video competition sponsored by Nikon, the photography company.

Filmed over 48 hours with an image recorded every 10 minutes, the footage shows the coronavirus as red spots circulating among a mass of gray blobs — the bat’s brain cells. After they are infected, the bat’s cells begin to fuse with neighboring cells. At some point, the entire mass bursts, resulting in the death of the cells.

Ms. Aicher, who specializes in zoonotic diseases — those that can be transmitted from animals to humans — said this infectious juggernaut was the same in bats and humans, with one important distinction: Bats ultimately do not get sick.

In humans, the coronavirus is able to evade detection and cause more damage in part by preventing infected cells from alerting the immune system to the presence of the invaders. But its special power is the ability to force host cells to fuse with neighboring ones, a process known as syncytia that allows the coronavirus to remain undetected as it replicates.

“Every time the virus has to exit the cell, it’s at risk of detection so if it can go straight from one cell to another, it can work much faster,” Ms. Aicher said.

She said she hoped the video would help demystify the virus, and make it easier for people to understand and appreciate this deceitful nemesis that has upended billions of lives.

“It’s important to help people get past the scientific jargon to understand that this a very sophisticated and clever virus that is well adapted to make humans sick,” she said.

Storm Reid Dances to Normani’s “Wild Aspect” | Video

We’re going to need a collaboration between Storm Reid and Normani ASAP. On July 21, the Euphoria actress posted an Instagram video of herself dancing to Normani’s new “Wild Side” track. Clearly, she can keep up with the best of the best, so let’s get her on a stage with Normani right away.

Even Reid’s makeup artist, Joanna Skim, was amazed to see what she pulled off in such a short time. “Ma’am. You stepped away for three minutes and shot a whole music video. How,” Skim commented on Reid’s video. Hey, when inspiration strikes, you have to go for it, especially if you’re “shooting [your] shot” like Reid was. Normani and Cardi B Staff Up For “Wild Aspect” Music Video

Normani is finally back with new music! On Thursday night, the 25-year-old singer dropped her latest single, titled “Wild Side,” which features the one and only Cardi B. The song slowly builds, but is sexy throughout, and the chills-inducing music video features multiple avant-garde looks, cinematic sets, and elaborate choreography. In one vignette, Normani dances with a mirror image of herself. It’s truly wild.

Normani teased the track earlier this week when she wiped her entire Instagram account clean, leaving only one video from February that featured a clip of the song. She later posted a gorgeous shot of her wearing leopard-print clothes from the music video. Of course, this isn’t the first time Normani and Cardi have teamed up for an epic music video. Normani previously made a cameo in Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s star-studded “WAP” music video back in August 2020. We can’t wait to hear what other music Normani has in store for us. Tilda Swinton Pranks Timothée Chalamet at Cannes | Video

Image source: Getty Images / Stephane Cardinale

You can call Timothée Chalamet by name Tilda Swinton. The French shipping costars performed at the premiere of the Wes Anderson film in Cannes on July 12th, which ended with a nine-minute standing ovation from the audience. With all the applause, Tilda managed to play a quick prank on a humble Timothée that made me laugh for, well, much longer than nine minutes.

Shared in a Twitter video by diversity Editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh, Timothée enjoys the ovation while Tilda pretends to pat him on the shoulder. What she really does is stick her name on his metallic suit jacket, which causes a hilarious reveal when she turns him over. If they are having so much fun at the premiere, we can only imagine what a rush there was during the filming together. We may never get all the details behind the scenes, but right now we’re enjoying the mischievous moment between Tilda and a humble Timothée in the clip in front of us.

Watch Jimmie Herrod’s America’s Received Expertise Audition | Video

“Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, showstopping, spectacular . . .” Lady Gaga’s viral string of compliments may have been originally intended for Ryan Murphy back in 2015, but they could absolutely be used to describe Jimmie Herrod, too. A 30-year-old singer from Portland, OR, Herrod auditioned for America’s Got Talent on Tuesday night and showed off quite the impressive superpower: the ability to change Simon Cowell’s opinion. Sounds damn-near impossible, but rest assured he made it happen.

Herrod chose to perform a rendition of “Tomorrow” from Annie, which Cowell described as the “worst song in the world” upon hearing the selection. Despite this, he stuck to his guns, belted out the joyous lyrics on stage, and wound up wowing all four judges and the entire crowd. “Wow, wow, wow. It’s not my worst song anymore,” Cowell admitted with a laugh after Herrod concluded. Meanwhile, Sofia Vergara initially pretended to be unimpressed by Herrod’s vocals, but soon relinquished her poker face and slammed the golden buzzer, sending metallic confetti flying through the air. Between Peter Rosalita, the Northwell Health Nurse Choir, and now Herrod, the competition is shaping up to be pretty darn fierce among the singers on AGT this season.

Video of Montreal Police Kneeling on Black Teenager Spurs Outcry

MONTREAL – For some Canadians, the 90-second video brought back memories of George Floyd: A white police officer appears to be kneeling on the neck of a black teenager lying face down on the floor on a Montreal street.

Police said Saturday that they are investigating what happened after a video of the encounter sparked an outcry from politicians and human rights defenders, many of whom were alarmed about the way the 14-year-old was apparently being held back.

Montreal police said the encounter took place on June 10 after officers were called to a fight between 15 young people near a high school in the Villeray neighborhood of Montreal. They said that two of the youths were armed.

It was not clear what happened in advance of the encounter between the officer and the teenager. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported that the teen was tied by the officers’ knees for less than a minute and that one officer said the teen had what looked like a stun gun.

The outcry comes as Canada sees a national awakening to institutional racism, including among the police force, fueled by the Black Lives Matter movement. The murder of Mr. Floyd by Minneapolis police last year sparked this movement.

“This brings back memories of what happened to George Floyd because the police use the same technique,” said Balarama Holness, a human rights activist running for Montreal mayor.

“The police must be held accountable,” continued Holness. “These techniques shouldn’t be allowed, period.”

Fernando Belton, a criminal defense attorney who represents the teenager in the video, said he and another teenager, also 14 years old, were arrested after police officers arrived at the scene and the teenagers began to flee. He said one teenager was overtaken by two police officers while the second was arrested by six officers. He said they both had knees on their necks.

“Why do you need so much police force on teenagers?” asked Mr. Belton, who teaches a racial profiling class at the University of Ottawa. “We’re not talking about criminals here, we’re talking about teenagers who are arrested in broad daylight.”

The outcry over the video comes after Brenda Lucki, the commissioner of Canada’s famous national police force, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, was forced to retract her earlier denials of systemic racism within the police force. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau argued that police across the country are grappling with systemic racism.

Last year, Canadians reacted with outrage to a police dashcam video showing an indigenous chief being held by one police officer and thrown to the ground by another, hit on the head and put in a stranglehold.

While Canada prides itself on being a progressive, liberal bastion, human rights activists say its law enforcement agencies need to go through profound cultural changes to prevent attacks on minorities.

Concerns about police behavior have spread beyond Montreal. A study by the Ontario Human Rights Commission found that between 2013 and 2017, blacks in Toronto were nearly 20 times more likely than whites to be involved in fatal shootings by Toronto police.

Annie Murphy Imitates Alexis Rose With Jimmy Fallon | Video

Annie Murphy may be in the thick of promoting her new show, Kevin Can F**ck Himself, but she can still snap back into character as Schitt’s Creek‘s Alexis Rose at the drop of a hat. The lovable Canadian actress did just that during an appearance on The Tonight Show on Wednesday evening, and it made us yearn for the Rose family’s onscreen shenanigans more than ever.

After playing a hilarious game of True Confessions, during which she admitted to licking Chris Martin’s sweat off her hand (yes, really), Annie and host Jimmy Fallon took a mini walk down memory lane to reflect on Schitt’s Creek. To the surprise of no one, Annie said fans of the award-winning sitcom regularly yell, “Ew, David!” at her in public, despite the fact that Alexis only utters the phrase a few times throughout the entire series. This revelation led her to briefly slip into character — vocal fry, T-rex-like hand gesture, and all — to say, “Ugh, David!” and “Why, David?!” which made Jimmy and the whole crowd lose their Schitt. Watch Alexis’s — er, Annie’s — entire late-night interview above.
