Taxpayers who have already filed their 2020 tax returns should not change them to take advantage of tax breaks created by the new $ 1.9 trillion pandemic relief act, Internal Revenue Service agent Charles said Rettig, on Thursday, told lawmakers that the IRS would automatically send refunds to those who qualify.

President Joe Biden on Tuesday called on states to prioritize vaccinating teachers and school staff against Covid-19 with a goal of giving at least one shot to every educator and staff member across the country by the end of March.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention previously urged states to give priority to teacher vaccination. However, some public health professionals criticized that vaccination was not a requirement for K-12 schools to reopen.

“Let me be clear, we can reopen schools if the right steps are taken before staff are vaccinated,” Biden said at the White House on Tuesday. “But time and again we have heard from educators and parents who are concerned about it.”

To expedite the safe reopening of schools, Biden said, “Let’s treat personal learning as the essential service it is, and that means vaccinating key workers who provide that service, educators, school staff and child carers.” . ”

“My challenge for all states, territories and the District of Columbia is this: We want every educator, school worker and childcare worker to receive at least one shot by the end of March,” he added.

Biden said he will use the federal pharmacy partnership established with retail pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens to expand access to Covid-19 vaccines and make the shots available to teachers and school staff before K-12. This would enable these workers to obtain the vaccine in states where they do not meet local approval requirements.

His statement is the strongest appeal yet and the most ambitious timeline the federal government has tabled for states to give priority to educators and school staff, although that is not the mandate for it. Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers, welcomed the president’s remarks as a concrete step in reopening schools for personal learning.

“What an enormous relief to have a president who can cope with this moment of crisis,” Weingarten said in a statement. “Vaccinations are an essential ingredient in safely reopening schools. This is the administration taking steps to expedite vaccination for educators. This is great news for anyone looking to study in school.”

With the doses of the Covid-19 vaccines still scarce, states are handing them out to prioritized groups, mostly key frontline workers, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. While the CDC makes recommendations as to which groups should receive the vaccine first, states ultimately make their own decisions.

The CDC has recommended that teachers be vaccinated in the Phase 1b group, which includes everyone over the age of 75, as well as “key people on the front lines”. However, some states have excluded teachers and school staff from their definition of the main frontline workforce.

Although the country’s top health authority recommends states give priority to vaccination teachers, CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky explains that unvaccinated teachers shouldn’t be an obstacle to schools reopening. She said if schools follow public health precautions set by the CDC, teachers and staff can safely return to face-to-face learning.

However, based on the parameters set by the CDC, about 90% of schools in the country are in significant counties where the CDC says it is not safe for schools to fully reopen to face-to-face learning.

The Chief Medical Officer of the White House, Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday he would be taking the newly approved Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine and urged Americans to take the available shot if they are eligible.

The Food and Drug Administration on Saturday approved J & J’s vaccine, giving the US a third tool to fight the pandemic after vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer. The company expects to ship 20 million cans by the end of March.

“All three of them are really pretty good, and people should go for the one that is best available to them,” Fauci said on NBC’s Meet the Press.

“If you go to a place and have J&J, and that’s the one that’s available now, I’d take it,” Fauci said. “Personally, I would do the same. I think people need to be vaccinated as soon and as quickly as possible.”

The J&J vaccine is different from the others in that it is a single dose and patients do not have to return for a second dose. It can be stored at refrigerator temperature for months. The shot has shown an overall effectiveness of 66%, 72% in the USA and 57% in South Africa, where variant B.1.351 has spread rapidly.

Although the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines showed higher efficacy rates in two-dose studies compared to J & J’s single-dose vaccine, Fauci insisted that the J&J shot isn’t a weaker vaccine, and the trial data shouldn’t be for the three Shots are compared as they were tested at different times.

“You must now have three highly effective vaccines,” said Fauci. “There is no doubt about that.”

As the country sees a decline in new coronavirus cases and an improvement in vaccination rates, Fauci warned states to relax restrictions on pandemics prematurely, which could lead to a renewed spike in infections.

Cases have dropped from 300,000 a day to around 70,000, a baseline that’s still too high, Fauci said.

“We don’t want to keep preventing people from doing what they want. But let’s get to a good level,” Fauci told CBS ‘Face the Nation. “Let’s vaccinate a lot more people. And then you could withdraw these kinds of public health measures.”

“But right now that we are going under and reaching a plateau, it is not time to declare victory because we are not yet victorious,” he said.

In the letter, Rubio urged Biden not to let the payments “get entangled in normal political games by adding a wish-list of left-wing or other unrelated priorities to this legislation”.

“All too often, popular and necessary legislation is used as a lever to secure passage for guidelines that cannot of their own accord,” wrote Rubio. “We saw it already in the middle of the pandemic, when additional funding for small businesses was repeatedly blocked for months.”

The Biden transition team did not respond to a request for comment.

One of the possible measures that Biden has proposed as part of the aid package for Covid-19 is an increase in the federal minimum wage to $ 15 an hour, a longstanding Democratic priority. “Even if it looks like there are no more appointments, don’t be discouraged. Keep updating this page and you can make an appointment too!” wrote Cramer, who throughout the pandemic has stressed the importance of vaccines in limiting the harm caused by Covid-19.
