NJ governor blames Walgreens, federal government for sluggish Covid vaccine rollout

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy (D) blamed Walgreens and the federal government for the Garden State’s sluggish vaccine rollout during an interview Wednesday night on CNBC’s The News with Shepard Smith.

On Tuesday, Murphy said that New Jersey was effectively equipped to distribute the vaccine, but that all vendors were missing “are the vaccine doses.” New Jersey has a population of approximately 8,882 million people and has distributed 898,550 vaccines while only 432,220 of them have been administered, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Pointing out the Covid vaccine doses under state control, Murphy said they get into people’s arms more efficiently.

“There aren’t many doses in hospitals or other distribution points that we directly control that are not in use,” Murphy said. “We get shot in the arms with all areas we can control.”

Smith pushed back with Murphy, insisting that “people lose” when it comes to the slow adoption of vaccines. There are currently more than 123,000 Americans in the hospital and an average of 3,000 people die each day, according to a CNBC analysis of Johns Hopkins data. The pandemic has killed more than 400,000 people since the pandemic started early last year. Murphy pointed to the federal government.

The American Hospital Association on Thursday urged Health Secretary Alex Azar to provide more support and coordination for the federal distribution of Covid-19 vaccines. The slow rollout has raised questions about how quickly they can vaccinate the public.

The group, which represents nearly 5,000 hospitals and health systems across the country, said the rollout “raised concerns about whether the task of vaccinating everyone who is able to take the vaccine will come as soon as it can it was suggested by the federal leaders “. “We hear from hospitals and health systems that serve more than one state that it is difficult to manage vaccine distribution when their patients live in jurisdictions with different rules about which patients are prioritized and who have different levels of priority,” wrote Pollack . “As this rollout is evolving rapidly, it is absolutely essential that effective situational real-time guidance is provided at the national level.”

He urged Azar and HHS to communicate more frequently and clearly with state, local, and hospital officials.

And many hospitals across the country are currently overwhelmed with treating Covid-19 patients. Pollack says hospitals cannot vaccinate the public without help. He said hospitals suffer from staff shortages and limited protective equipment such as masks and gloves. Pollack asked for more details about the government’s plan to include pharmacy chains in the wider vaccine rollout.

Pollack stressed that the aim of the vaccination campaign is to achieve herd immunity and bring the outbreak under control. By some estimates, that could be around 246 million Americans, or around 75% of the population.

“That would mean vaccinating 1.8 million people a day between January 15 and May 31, including weekends and holidays,” wrote Pollack of the attempt to vaccinate 246 million Americans by the summer. “There are currently 64 different micro-plans being developed by states, some major cities, and other jurisdictions [HHS] assess whether these plans are overall able to achieve this level of vaccination? “

The department also argued that Mr. Gohmert had no authority to sue Mr. Pence for performing the duties set out in the law, but that he should sue Congress, which passed the original law.

President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, protested against the prosecutors investigating him on Tuesday, proposing to act as a “secret police” and serve the political interests of President-elect Joe Biden.

Giuliani’s Twitter rant against the Justice Department came a day after NBC News reported that New York prosecutors are seeking permission from senior DOJ officials to request a search warrant from a judge for Giuliani’s electronic communications.

On the same day, judges at the US District Court in Manhattan officially appointed Audrey Strauss as the chief federal prosecutor’s office in the southern borough of New York, effective January 16.

Strauss, who oversees the Giuliani investigation, has been serving as acting U.S. attorney for the SDNY since last summer when her predecessor Geoffrey Berman was evicted.

Sources told NBC that the SDNY’s investigation into Giuliani was “very active”.

“I am proud to be number one on the Biden Vindictive government list,” Giuliani wrote in a tweet.

“Sounds like the anti-Trumpers of the DOJ can’t wait for Biden to make the DOJ the GOVERNMENT secret police, like they’re under Obama,” he added.

It is not known exactly why SDNY prosecutors are investigating Giuliani, who is currently leading Trump’s extremely far-reaching efforts to reverse the Biden Electoral College victory.

Giuliani, as Trump’s attorney, has been trying to gather harmful information about Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden in connection with Hunter Biden’s business activities in Ukraine for at least last year.

Giuliani’s efforts were widely viewed as an attempt to harm Biden’s then candidacy for president in early 2019.

But those efforts failed spectacularly in the summer of 2019 when Trump personally pressured the Ukrainian president to announce an investigation into the Bidens.

At the time, Trump withheld the military aid appropriated by Congress to Ukraine, which was embroiled in a dispute over the territory with its neighbor Russia.

Trump was charged by the House of Representatives for his actions. The Senate later acquitted him after a trial earlier this year.

Trump and his company are under investigation by the Manhattan Attorney’s Office, which is a government agency.

The DA office has an arrest warrant that allows him to obtain Trump’s tax records and other financial documents from his long-time accounting firm.
