N.R.A. Chief Takes the Stand, With Cracks in His Armor

Mr LaPierre is seeking bankruptcy to help reintegrate the NRA into the more gun-friendly state of Texas and has already repaid about $ 300,000 to the NRA when he tried to keep his job. However, Monica Connell, an assistant attorney general, argued that Mr. LaPierre had no authority to bankrupt the NRA himself and had used a “twisted” ploy to get the board of directors to inadvertently grant the necessary approval.

Instead of submitting a bankruptcy order to the board, Mr. LaPierre’s team asked the board to vote on a new employment contract for him. It looked like reform as it reduced its golden parachute.

However, the contract contained an unobtrusive provision that gave Mr. LaPierre “without limitation” the authority “to reorganize or reorganize the affairs of the association for the purpose of minimizing costs, complying with legal requirements or otherwise”.

The new contract was first presented to a committee of the NRA board on January 7th in a closed session. There weren’t enough copies and no one could leave with one. NRA officials said board members had ample time to review.

By this point, LaPierre’s principal outside attorney, the law firm William A. Brewer III, had spent months planning bankruptcy and amassing millions of dollars in legal fees. But nobody told the board about it. After the committee emerged from its closed meeting, the board approved the contract with little inkling that it had put bankruptcy authority over to Mr LaPierre.

President Joe Biden on Sunday declared the deal between two Korean battery manufacturers a victory for US efforts to build a strong electric vehicle supply chain to create clean energy jobs and mitigate climate change.

The settlement of a trade secret dispute between LG Energy Solution and SK Innovation Co. enables two Georgia plants to advance their plans to manufacture lithium-ion batteries for Ford and Volkswagen.

The companies agreed to cease litigation in the US and South Korea and not pursue any further lawsuits for a decade. SK Innovation is also paying LG Energy Solution $ 1.8 billion in cash and royalties.

The deal came ahead of the Biden government deadline on Sunday evening to reverse a decision by the U.S. International Trade Commission unless the battery makers reached an agreement.

The deal is a huge win for the Biden administration, which recently unveiled a comprehensive infrastructure plan that includes $ 174 billion in spending to boost the electric vehicle market and move away from gas-powered cars.

“We need a strong, diversified and resilient supply chain for electric vehicle batteries in the US so that we can meet the growing global demand for these vehicles and components – create well-paying jobs here at home and lay the foundations for the jobs of tomorrow.” “Said Biden in a statement.

The president’s proposal calls for the installation of at least 500,000 charging stations across the country by 2030, incentives for Americans to buy electric vehicles, and money to convert factories and improve domestic material supplies.

Coinbase will be the first publicly traded cryptocurrency exchange in the US when it publishes its shares on the Nasdaq this Wednesday. IMF raises Middle East growth forecast, recovery will be 'divergent'

The International Monetary Fund has revised its growth forecast for the Middle East and North Africa region upwards as the countries recover from the coronavirus crisis that began in 2020.

Real GDP in the MENA region is now projected to grow 4% in 2021, compared to the fund’s October forecast of 3.2%.

However, the outlook will vary significantly from country to country depending on factors such as vaccine adoption, exposure to tourism, and policies in place, the IMF said in its latest regional economic report released on Sunday.

Vaccine is an important variable this year, and speeding up vaccination could add almost an additional percent of GDP in 2022.

Jihad Azour, director of the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia division, said the recovery was “different between countries and uneven between different segments of the population”.

He told CNBC’s Hadley Gamble that growth will be mainly driven by oil exporting countries, which will benefit from the acceleration in vaccination programs and the relative strength of oil prices.

Vaccines an “important variable”

Azour said each country’s ability to recover in 2021 will be “very different”.

It added that early vaccines are expected to hit 2019 GDP levels in 2022, but countries in the two slower categories will recover to pre-pandemic levels between 2022 and 2023.

Azour said innovative guidelines have helped speed the recovery, but it is “very important to do better”.

This could include measures to improve the economy, attract investment, strengthen regional cooperation and tackle the scars of the Covid crisis.

“All of these elements are silver linings that can help accelerate the recovery and bring the region’s economy to levels of growth that existed before the Covid-19 shock,” he said.

Take a look at the reward structure. You have an OK base salary, but then the bonus is awarded based on how you hold up against your colleagues at the end of the year. It’s like a tournament. It’s like a race. And all you know is that the people next to you by whom you will be judged are just as smart as you are. You work just as hard. The only leverage you have is trying to revise them. These reward structures continue that work ethic.

When an organization says: “We value work-life balance, we don’t want our employees to work on weekends, we want blah blah blah”, there is still this competitive structure in which employees have an incentive to work all they can because others are doing the same, and only winners will be rewarded.

Fostering talent can work for a company. However, you have found that many employees choose these busy schedules even when they come with a high personal cost. One Employee told you: “I work hard because I want to.”

The people who get hired at banks have competed in excellence all their lives. When I speak to students at the beginning of their bachelor’s career and ask them: “What do you want to be?” Very few want to go into banking.

So what is happening? When these companies come on campus, people start competing because they have been conditioned to do so throughout their lives. They chase what everyone else is chasing, regardless of whether or not they are actually interested in the work. Regardless of whether there are consequences or not, these people want to win.

This is perhaps the last part that includes people in these intense work schedules. It’s the idea that there is a cadre of people who are the best, the brightest, and if you don’t keep up, you’ll end up in some sort of second-rate company – part of an indefinable “rest”.

What is so bad about it?

The people in the best and brightest group, they have opportunities, they earn a lot, they work with other interesting people, they work on global deals. The rest of you push paper with uninteresting colleagues and over time you become like them. People sincerely believe that. You believe that if you do not work for an elite organization, you will fall into an abyss of personal social origin.

Dick’s Sporting Goods opens the largest store it has ever built on Friday.

This new format is called House of Sport and offers a variety of functions. The retailer’s goal was to create a space where visitors could not only buy sneakers, but also enjoy sports and other physical activities for an afternoon.

The more than 100,000 square meter space is located in the Eastview Mall in the Rochester suburb of Victor, New York. It includes an indoor climbing wall, golf courses, putting green, and health and wellness shop, as well as an outdoor track and grass field – all things Dick’s is testing for the first time.

Dozens of well-known brands, including Yeti and Vans, have their own spaces in the store to showcase new products. They sit next to Dick’s trademarks DSG, Calia and VRST. Nike has the largest square of them all, including an area near the entrance to the mall for the Jordan brand. It’s the largest room Dick’s Nike has ever given in a store.

Dick’s is already planning to open its second House of Sport in Knoxville, Tennessee this year.

Ed Stack, executive chairman, chief merchant and former CEO, said more stores will open in other states with this format in the coming years.

“The vision I created for this concept was that we wanted to build the store … the experience that would put Dick’s sporting goods out of business,” Stack said in a recent interview.

“This is the greatest innovation we’ve ever made,” he said. “This is the greatest advance in any concept we’ve made. And I think we got it right.”

According to Lauren Hobart, CEO of Stack and Dick, certain elements of House of Sport are slowly being incorporated into more current Dick locations depending on how well they are received. For example, the mini health and wellness juice shops or the room for stollen could be found in dozens of other retailer’s stores.

The company plans to allow local sports teams to use its field for meetups and has a conference room that can be booked for other types of gatherings.

“Between the service model that we entered [House of Sport], the experience, the games, the product … we really see it like it’s almost like starting a brand new company, “said Stack.

Story of last season: CSK beat defending champions Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener but that was as good as it got in a forgettable campaign for the three-time winners. The final table suggests they only narrowly missed out on the play-offs but two of Chennai’s six wins came after they had already been eliminated and only served to ensure they avoided the ignominy of a last-placed finish. It was not all doom and gloom though, Sam Curran excelled with bat and ball and young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad hit three fifties in just six innings to provide CSK with some optimism for the future.

2021 chances: With one of the great white-ball captains, MS Dhoni, leading the side, you cannot rule Chennai out. However, it would take something special for them to end the campaign with a fourth IPL crown. Moeen Ali, Cheteshwar Pujara and Robin Uthappa have come in to add to a squad already packed with experience while if anyone is capable of producing something a bit special, it is Ravindra Jadeja, who should be back from injury to bolster the XI in all three departments. There are questions over whether some of that established core might have passed from experienced to, well, just plain old, so the performances of youngsters such as Gaikwad and Curran will be all the more important to their chances.

Six-hitter? At 35, Ambati Rayudu is certainly part of a rather large group of elder statesmen in the CSK but when it comes to big-hitting, he can mix it with the best of the young talent coming through. Only Faf du Plessis scored more runs than him for Chennai last year but after passing 50 just once, Rayudu will be keen for more telling contributions this time out.

Wicket-taker? Curran was a rare bright spark in 2020. He moved up and down the order with the bat, scoring quickly if not always for a long period of time, but with the ball, he was Chennai’s top performer with 13 wickets. He has shown his knack for taking wickets at key times with England and it was no different for CSK, Dhoni will want more of the same from the left-armer this time around.

DELHI CAPITALS

English players: Sam Billings, Tom Curran, Chris Woakes

Story of last season: Inspired by South African pace duo Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje and the runs of Shikhar Dhawan, Delhi came flying out of the traps in the UAE, cementing their place in the top two before overcoming a wobble, returning to form and make the final for the first time. However, they came up short against the all-conquering Mumbai Indians in the final as their wait for a first title continued.

2021 chances: The Capitals suffered a big blow when captain Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the tournament with a shoulder issue, while star spinner Axar Patel could also miss the first game or two after contracting Covid-19. However, they have added one of the world’s leading batsmen in Steve Smith and even without Iyer, all the ingredients that made them such a force in 2020 remain: wicket-taking fast bowlers, wily homegrown spinners and an abundance of power hitters. Delhi are primed for another run at the title.

Six-hitter? Rishabh Pant, who else? After a remarkable start to 2021, Pant has been appointed Delhi captain for this year’s competition. The left-hander is perhaps the most explosive batsman in world cricket and he’s in the form of his life. Can he smash Delhi to the title? You would not rule it out. Even if he misses out though, Dhawan, Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane are just a few of the DC batsmen capable of demolishing opposition attacks.

Wicket-taker? If Pant is one of the most exciting batsmen on the planet, then Rabada holds an equivalent status among the bowlers. The Proteas pacer claimed the IPL purple cap and leading wicket-taker with 30 last year and is only getting better. A supporting cast of Nortje, R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Amit Mishra and the newly arrived Chris Woakes isn’t too bad either!

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS

English players: Eoin Morgan (captain)

Story of last season: It was a strange old campaign for KKR, one that ultimately saw them miss out on the play-offs on net run-rate after Sunrisers Hyderabad thrashed already-qualified Mumbai in the final match of the group phase. A mixed start saw everyone’s favorite Indian pundit Dinesh Karthik replaced as skipper by Eoin Morgan but results remained up and down. Andre Russell played 10 games but never seemed anything close to 100 per cent fit, while the usually ultra-reliable Pat Cummins blew hot and cold. Lockie Ferguson’s injection of pace late in the tournament was very encouraging for Kolkata though.

2021 chances: Brendon McCullum has had time to get comfortable in his role as head coach, Morgan is firmly established as captain and the KKR squad looks strong. Russell’s fitness remains an issue but if he is at his best, it could make all the difference – both with bat and ball. A full season of Ferguson, alongside Cummins, Prasidh Krishna and Shivam Mavi, boosts their pace options while in Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravathi, they possess two highly effective spinners. Sunil Narine has played a big role in recent years but faces real competition now with Shakib Al Hasan back in the mix – settling on the right mix of overseas stars could be KKR’s biggest dilemma.

Six-hitter? At his best, there is no competition: it’s Russell. Dre Russ is a six-hitting machine. As he struggled last term though, Morgan stepped up in his role as finisher and blasted 24 sixes, ranking him fifth in the IPL. The immensely talented Shubman Gill can also clear the ropes, as can Nitish Rana.

Wicket-taker? Chakravathi led the way with 17 for KKR in the UAE, followed by Cummins with 12. Ferguson could well be the main man this year, though, he took six in just five matches last year and with his blistering pace, he is always going to make life tough for the batsmen.

Story of last season: Having had one year on, one year off since their first triumph in 2013, Mumbai decided to mix things up and win it back-to-back. It was a typically slow start before hitting their stride at just the right time, qualifying with time to spare and not only that but topping the group despite missing captain Rohit Sharma for a decent chunk of it. They then beat a strong side Delhi twice in the knockout stages to lift the IPL trophy for a fifth time.

2021 chances: Mahela Jayawardene’s side remain the team to beat. There is a reason they have been labelled the best T20 side ever. Not only is their squad chock full of talent, the balance of their XI has been near-perfect and, frankly, they seem to have no weaknesses. Just look at the squad above and see if you can find an area in which they are light. Spin bowling perhaps? Even if they lack star performers in that department, in Krunal Pandya, Piyush Chawla and Rahul Chahar, they have proven and reliable IPL players to call upon. Of course, the players still need to do it when it counts but there is every chance of a Mumbai three-peat in 2021.

Six-hitter? England fans were given a glimpse of what Ishan Kishan is capable of during the T20I series last month, it was an eye-opening display of hitting. Anyone who has paid attention to the IPL in recent years, though, had seen it all before – not that that made it any less impressive! Kishan hit a staggering – and IPL leading – 30 sixes in last year’s competition and the 22-year-old’s effort against England showed he is ready for more!

Wicket-taker? Look no further than Jasprit Bumrah. Not only is he the preeminent white-ball bowler of his generation, capable of taking wickets and drying up runs at any stage of an innings, he is also very well rested after sitting out the final Test and all of the white-ball matches of India’s series with England.

Story of last season: Another lost season. While their pride was salvaged somewhat with a run of five straight wins to have the team suddenly in playoff contention with two games to go, it was their start that saw them lose six of their first seven to have them firmly rooted to the bottom of the table that proved to be insurmountable.

2021 chances: The Kings will be hoping a slight tweak to their name prompts a turnaround in their fortunes from traditional tournament strugglers to playoff contenders – Kings have finished in the top four only twice in 13 years, while they’ve occupied the bottom spot on three occasions. As well as the name change, the No 1 ranked T20 batsman in the world, England’s Dawid Malan, arrives to strengthen the batting, while Australian pace pair Riley Meredith and Jhye Richardson could prove shrewd pickups.

Six-hitter? KL Rahul finished the 2020 season as the leading run-scorer in the IPL – 670 runs, averaging 55.83 – and so could rightfully stake a claim for the six-hitting crown for Kings, but for the fact that Nicholas Pooran resides in their middle order. There are few sweeter strikers of the cricket ball in the world than the languid, left-hander West Indian who cleared the ropes 25 times in 2020 – tied for the fourth-most sixes in the tournament.

Wicket-taker? Meredith. The young Australian quick is taking part in his first IPL, so might seem a strange choice here, especially when considering that his fellow quick and countryman, Richardson, outperformed him in the 2020/21 Big Bash, ending as the tournament leading wicket-taker – 29 in 17 games at an average of 16.31. But just ask Shane Warne for his thoughts on the 24-year-old Tasmanian, Meredith – who made his T20I debut for Australia in March – and you’ll soon realize why he was snapped up by Kings.

Story of last season: A hugely disappointing last-placed finish, especially when you consider the breadth of talent, in particular English talent, available to them. The Royals had some impressive performances along the way; Jofra Archer was sensational, claiming 20 wickets at an average of 18.25 for the tournament, with a paltry economy of 6.55 an over; Ben Stokes impressed when moved to open the innings, as he struck a match-winning, unbeaten 107 in a victory over Kings, but Rajasthan could never find any consistency to string a run of wins together to keep them in contention.

2021 chances: The talent remains, with English contingent Archer, Stokes and Jos Buttler all retained (and Liam Livingstone resigned), but Archer’s availability is in doubt after he recently had surgery on his hand and has a persistent elbow injury that continues to trouble him. A fast start out of the gates is essential, with the hope being that the Royals are in contention for when the England quick comes into the lineup.

Six-hitter? Buttler will surely feel put out at being overlooked for his England team-mate, but it was Stokes who excelled last year when promoted up the order to open at Buttler’s expense. Plus, if you need any further evidence of his six-hitting prowess, just watch his utterly destructive 99 from 52 balls in England’s second ODI win over India on their recently concluded tour, in which he cleared the ropes 10 times.

Wicket-taker? Chris Morris will be expected to contribute with both bat and ball, having set Rajasthan back an IPL record £1.61m in the auction, and Archer will no doubt lead the attack once fit, but with questions currently hanging over both, could it finally be Jaydev Unadkat‘s time for the Royals? The left-arm seamer has largely been a disappointment since signing for the team in 2018, but the team have stood by him and retained him once again – he now needs to repay that faith.

Story of last season: Despite the fourth-placed finish, RCB continue to flatter to deceive in the IPL, despite their loaded roster. Fans can point to a first trip to the playoffs in four seasons (since their runners-up finish in 2016) as a sign of progress but, dig a little deeper, and RCB very much stumbled their way into the final four with four-straight defeats to finish the season – which swiftly became five as Sunrisers knocked them out in the Eliminator.

2021 chances: The expectation of Virat Kohli’s men will once again be for them to finally be crowned IPL champions. The reality is though that, while they will once again be challengers for the title and could well make the playoffs, they still don’t look a completely balanced side, relying too heavily again on the batting talent they have at their disposal.

Six-hitter? Glenn Maxwell. The long-time Kings stalwart is now headed for Bangalore, where he will only add to an already explosive batting lineup. It could prove to be the perfect move for Maxwell, who was often burdened by expectations in Punjab and, instead, may well be freed up and given greater license to wield the willow due to the platforms that will surely be provided for him by Kohli, AB de Villiers and the like.

Wicket-taker? Yuzvendra Chahal. And RCB will be hoping it’s the 2020 version of the legspinner, who claimed 21 wickets at an average of 19.28 a pop in last year’s tournament, as opposed to the one who struggled mightily in the recent T20 series against England before being dropped. Another to watch out for is Kiwi quick Kyle Jamieson, who has made quite the name for himself since returning incredible figures of 6-7 in the 2019 Super Smash in New Zealand. International recognition has since followed, as well as an IPL bidding war for his services which RCB ultimately won.

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD

Story of last season: Starting with back-to-back defeats, Sunrisers limped their way to seven losses from their opening 11 games and were staring at an early exit. A slight tweak to their lineup, strengthening their bowling by bringing in Jason Holder for Jonny Bairstow – who was having an impressive tournament till then (31.36 average, 126.83 strike rate) – seemed to have the desired effect as they won their last three to sneak into the playoffs, before ultimately being knocked out by Delhi in the final qualifier.

2021 chances: Sunrisers are always competitive. They’ve not once failed to make the final four since winning the tournament in 2016, however they have returned to the final itself on only one occasion when beaten by Chennai in 2018. They remain a very settled side, and are further bolstered for 2021 by the return to fitness and form of seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, whose death-bowling brilliance caused England all sorts of problems on their recent white-ball tour of India.

Six-hitter? David Warner consistently finds himself atop the run-scoring charts in the IPL, so why should 2021 be any different? His 2020 tournament haul of 548 runs, at an average of 39.14 and strike rate of 134.64 was good enough for third-best in the league.

Wicket-taker? Rashid Khan is another one, a supremely consistent IPL performer for Sunrisers and widely considered the best T20 bowler in the world. The Afghanistan leg-spinner has another stellar season in 2020, finishing with 20 wickets at an average of 17.20 – and that’s despite teams rarely choosing to take him on and attack him, proven by his paltry economy rate of just 5.37 runs an over.

The Wall Street Journal’s Internal Audit

For over a year, a dedicated editorial team at the Wall Street Journal analyzed the condition of the newsroom and produced a detailed, in-depth report on what the paper is doing right and, more importantly, what the paper is doing wrong.

There is a lot at stake. Subscriptions to The Journal are growing – but not fast enough. News Corp, the company that owns The Journal, wants the broadsheet to double its readership. The study, titled The Content Review, concluded that this goal would be difficult without major changes.

The journal needs to rethink how it collects news, what topics it covers and who its audience is. The report was intended to serve as a template for how paper should reshape itself for the digital age and secure its future.

But the company effectively put the report, which was finalized last summer, on hold. Most of the people in the newsroom didn’t see it.

What follows are some of the specific results.

Change is difficult in any news organization. In The Journal’s case, “the barrier we quickly found was fear.”

The newspaper needs to overcome its fear and become an “audience-centric newsroom,” the report says, a move many other newspapers and digital publishers have already taken.

What content review is all about.

The journal needs to find better ways to connect with its audiences rather than relying on what the report calls its “strong readers,” the die-hard executives, heavy-hitting Wall Street traders and retirees who make up much of its audience turn off.

A traffic ceiling was set simply by the existence of this group. The paper doesn’t seem to break the 50 million monthly readership barrier when it needs twice as much.

Who is the journal’s audience?

The journal needs new readers – especially women, people of color and younger professionals.

However, according to the study, it will be difficult to reach these people as “diversity is not the focus of our reporting”.

The report found that of the 108 lead stories published over a three-month period, “only had one race as the main theme”. It added, “Nobody had gender as the main theme and none had LGBTQ-specific issues as the main theme of the story. As for the protagonist of a story, many of our stories do not have human protagonists. But when they did that, we found that 13 percent were black people. “

A lack of digital expertise is a fundamental problem, the report said. “We need editors who are more active in using Google Trends and Google Suggestions when assigning stories and who encourage people to do so within their beats and columns,” it says as an example.

Most of this section also gave specific recommendations such as: For example, improving “wellness coverage” while discouraging “win” stories, a category that often “underperforms” “page views”.

What the journal should and shouldn’t do.

The report made it clear how much more traffic and engagement each department would need to deliver in order to meet the journal’s goal of 100 million monthly readers. The report added that the newspaper must reach 55 million readers a month over the next year. Spread across the six main coverage areas – Corporate, Washington, Arts, Finance, National, International – each department needs to “bring about 1.9 million more non-subscribers to where we were last fall.”

Johnson & Johnson is reducing shipments of its single-dose Covid-19 vaccine next week by 86% as it grapples with manufacturing issues at a large Baltimore facility.

The government allocated just 700,000 J&J shots to the states next week, up from 4.9 million the week before. This is based on data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

J&J is awaiting regulatory approval for a facility in Baltimore operated by Emergent BioSolutions Inc and is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to obtain approval.

Workers at the Baltimore plant mixed the ingredients for the J&J and AstraZeneca vaccines a few weeks ago, resulting in around 15 million J&J doses being ruined. The Biden administration hired J&J to manufacture vaccines at the factory and stopped producing the AstraZeneca vaccine there.

Once approved, J&J could dispense up to eight million doses a week, White House Covid-19 coordinator Jeff Zients said during a news conference on Friday. And the company remains on track to deliver 100 million cans by the end of May.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has urged the Biden administration to increase vaccines in her state, which is grappling with the country’s worst outbreak. Michigan is expected to receive 17,500 J&J cans next week, an 88% decrease from the previous week.

The government said it will continue to assign shots based on population and has no plans to increase doses to more affected states as it cannot predict where infections might rise next.

“There are tens of millions of people across the country in every state and county who have not yet been vaccinated,” Zients said Friday. “And the fair and just way to distribute the vaccine is based on the adult population by state, tribe and territory. That is how it was done, and we will continue to do it.”

“The virus is unpredictable. We don’t know where the next surge in cases might be,” he added.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said in a statement Friday that the state will only receive 34,900 doses, an 88% decrease from the previous week.

“As has been the case since our vaccination efforts began, the X-Factor is supply, supply, supply, and like any other state, our Johnson & Johnson dose allocation will be significantly lower next week,” said Cuomo.

In California, the J&J grant will decrease from 572,700 to 67,600. Florida from 313,200 to 37,000; and Texas from 392,100 to 46,300.

Some states have also temporarily suspended J&J vaccinations in certain facilities after people suffered side effects. The Georgia Department of Health stopped all recordings in one location after reactions occurred in eight people, and other locations in North Carolina and Colorado also stopped giving doses due to reactions.

However, according to a statement from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the CDC has found no safety issues or cause for concern regarding the J&J doses. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment also said there was “nothing to worry about.”

“After reviewing each patient’s symptoms, analyzing other vaccinations from the same vaccine lot, and speaking with the CDC to confirm our results, we are confident that there is no cause for concern,” said Dr. Eric France, chief medical officer of the department’s officer, said in a statement.

The J&J vaccine was the third vaccine approved in the United States, after vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna. According to CDC data, the company shipped nearly 15 million cans in the US on Friday night.

The US delivers an average of 7 million vaccine doses per day over a seven-day period. One in five Americans is now fully vaccinated, according to the CDC.

The rate of new Covid cases and deaths in the US has fallen dramatically since the winter summit, when hundreds of thousands of new infections and thousands of deaths were reported daily.

According to the Johns Hopkins University, the 7-day average of new cases in the US was 67,000 on Saturday. This is comparable to the upswing that hit the nation last summer. The US reports an average of 982 deaths daily.

New infections are increasing in 23 states as the more infectious variant first identified in Great Britain has become the dominant strain. US President Joe Biden has urged states to grant vaccine appointments to all adults by April 19 as the nation struggles to immunize as many people as possible, people as good as the virus mutates.
